IntroductionChildren's MagicBalloon ModellingContact Me
glitterjacket1Hello! My name is Professor Shell (ASB) and I would like to thank you for visiting my website. I hope you find it informative.

You may wonder what ASB stands for of course it's "A Silly Billy!"

I did not initially like the idea of having a website until I was informed it had nothing to do with spiders.

So a bit about me and how it all started.

I have been a Children's Entertainer for many years. More than 20 in fact.

I did my first show when I was 16 and turned semi professional shortly thereafter.

My first day job was helping out at the magic studio of the famous Sheffield Magician Hamilton Kaye which I did for a short while, after which I went to work at the Sheffield Magic Shop (Magick Enterprises) on a work experience scheme. This was and still is owned by another famous Sheffield Magician and good friend of mine Russell Hall.

I met these people after joining the Sheffield Circle of Magicians, where I got further inspiration from several other famous members including Louis Martell, Les Johnson and several other highly creative minds in the world of magic.

Some of the other famous people who have inspired me over the years have been Edwin Hooper and Ian Adair of the famous Supreme Magic Company and more recently a man who used to work for Supreme, who now lives in Sheffield, John Kimmons.

In between my day job I clocked up literally hundreds of performances getting as much experience as possible.

During this period I would refine my act into what it has become today, taking note of the advice of all these good friends.

After a few years spent establishing my business, I decided to take a couple of years out. This came about specifically when I was offered a job at "Hamleys", the famous toy store in London. I was offered the job as their resident magician.

I moved to London where I met a huge assortment of performers as well as numerous celebrities and of course their children.

After a few years I decided it was time to return to my home town of Sheffield to re-establish my business.

Armed with all that I had learnt in London and all that I had learnt from all of my good friends in Sheffield, I set to work. After a few short weeks I was getting quite a few bookings and I since then have never looked back.

I have always been able to relate very well to children and although I still dabble in close-up magic as a personal interest. I have found nothing to date more rewarding than being able to make children laugh.

The charactor Professor Shell that I portray to this day during my performances is best described as a silly billy magician who appears to be as equally surprised at the content of the show as the children are that are watching it.

I have all my outfits custom made to reflect current trends that the children can relate to. At the moment my current Dr Who themed waistcoats are very popular. That said I do also have a range of theatrical custom made glitter jackets, which I wear on occasion.

I personally choose not to dress as a clown, as in my experience, I find this can often frighten young children. Instead I portray the image of a very eccentric looking magician.

During my show I actively encourage audience participation and involve as many children as possible. I then use my experience of audience management to construct situation comedy which results in the children being totally captivated with the order of events.

I am a member of Equity and as such I carry full public liability Insurance and of course I am CRB Checked.

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.
